    VirtualBox è un software di virtualizzazione commerciale proprietario (con una versione ridotta distribuita secondo i termini della GNU General Public License) per architettura x86 a 32-bit che supporta Windows, GNU/Linux e Mac OS X (beta) come sistemi operativi host, ed è in grado di eseguire Windows, GNU/Linux, OS/2 Warp, OpenBSD e FreeBSD come sistemi operativi guest.La versione ridotta è stata rilasciata nel gennaio 2007, dopo diversi anni di lavoro.Se confrontato con altri software di virtualizzazione più diffusi, quali VMware Workstation o Virtual PC, a VirtualBox mancano alcune caratteristiche come la possibilità di eseguire remotamente macchine virtuali tramite il Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), il supporto iSCSI e il supporto delle periferiche USB tramite RDP. Comunque a sua volta, risulta dotato di alcune feature uniche. VirtualBox supporta la soluzione per la virtualizzazione hardware di Intel VT-x ed, in via sperimentale la soluzione di AMD, AMD-V, ma non usa nessuna delle due per impostazione predefinita.

    Un software di virtualizzazione molto potente, capace di fornire prestazioni analoghe a quelle dei prodotti professionali, pur essendo del tutto gratuito. Progettato in modo modulare, con un'interfaccia ben strutturata, rende semplice il controllo delle macchine virtuali create, le quali possono essere gestite anche mediante linee di comando. Implementa tutte le funzioni necessarie per rendere l'emulazione completa, come il supporto alla connessione USB. è previsto anche un sistema per condividere cartelle tra le diverse unità virtuali.

    VirtualBox è un eccellente programma cosiddetto di virtualizzazione, ovvero ti permette di installare ed eseguire diversi sistemi operativi all'interno di un altro Sistema Operativo; in questo caso vedremo VirtualBox in Italiano per Windows.



    Quando e perchè usare VirtualBox?
    Ad esempio quando siamo soliti installare e rimuovere spesso diverse applicazioni, magari solo per provarle; in questo modo eviteremo di dover procedere alla pulizia di windows, ma sarà sufficiente ricaricare l'immagine del sistema operativo installato in VirtualBox per ripartire da zero.
    Oppure quando scarichiamo materiale che abbiamo paura possa essere infetto da virus, in questo modo lo potremo usare sicuri che lo stesso lavorerà in un ambiente "circoscritto e limitato", senza accedere al sistema operativo vero e proprio.
    Oppure semplicemente perchè abbiamo la curiosità di provare altri sistemi operativi senza per questo dover formattare o mettere le mani sul nostro pc.

    Con VirtualBox potrai creare facilmente una macchina virtuale grazie a un wizard pratico e completamente in italiano. Puoi installare diversi sistemi operativi, da MS-DOS fino a Linux e altri Sistemi ancora.
    VirtualBox supporta Windows 98, 2000, NT, 2003, XP, Vista; Linux Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE, Slackware, Xandros, Fedora e Mandriva; è gratuito solo per uso personale. Per un uso commerciale bisogna acquistare una licenza.

    VirtualBox è un software di virtualizzazione gratuito che consente di creare una macchina virtuale sul PC. Grazie ad esso è possibile infatti eseguire contemporaneamente sul computer più sistemi operativi ,è dotato di un'interfaccia ben strutturata che rende semplice il controllo delle macchine virtuali create.

    In questa versione è stata migliorata la stabilità del programma e sono stati corretti numerosi bug
