New TomTom ( TomTom GO 2405, 2505)

When the GO LIVE 1000 was first shown in Amsterdam at the end of April and then formally launched with the GO 1005 (5" screen) at the end of September in Europe, the question was "when will it make it to North America ?"...the wait is over as they were announced yesterday as the GO 2405 and GO 2505...except that the is no LIVE connected feature (HD Traffic, Google Local, Weather, etc...) !

At this point it's anyone's guess why this feature is missing, but one has to assume that TomTom were not able to strike a deal with a US carrier to use their network and also collect data for their HD Traffic service. This is likely going to make it difficult for the new systems on the market, especially since the new platform they use is "closed", at least for now, with the removal of the popular POI import feature. Come forse saprete, TomTom lo scorso anno ha rilanciato la serie RIDER sotto le spoglie del Cavaliere-PRO, ed i modelli Urban Rider (in Europa e regionale sapori)

Ora, per qualche motivo non riusciamo a sentire molto su questi modelli (sono troppo cara, mi chiedo?)

Quindi, per imparare un po 'di più Stavo dando un'occhiata al manuale per loro e notato un paio di miglioramenti molto interessanti.

REGISTRA IL TUO PERCORSO
In primo luogo, vi è una caratteristica del tutto nuova per la produzione di registri di viaggio e le statistiche.
Come calcoli e semplice, ecc velocità media vi è ora una caratteristica del tutto nuova per registrare il tuo percorso, come lo DRIVE.

I log possono essere esportati come sia un TomTom standard. itinerario file ITN, che possono essere condivisi con altri utenti TomTom, e come. file GPX che può essere visualizzato con un software come Google Earth.

Un buon trucco è che anche se il ciclista non possa effettivamente utilizzare. GPX file stesso per la navigazione, l'unità può convertirli in itinerari, semplicemente inserendoli in una cartella "GPX2ITN" sul dispositivo.

Tortuose strade
Questa nuova funzionalità si rifà ai primi giorni di TomTom Navigator, dove si può scegliere le proprie preferenze per le quali tipi di strade da utilizzare. Attualmente TomTom su altri standard abbiamo solo la scelta se per evitare le autostrade o meno.

As you may know, last year TomTom relaunched the RIDER series in the guise of the Rider-PRO, and the Urban Rider models (in Europe and Regional flavours)

Now for some reason we don't get to hear much about these models (are they overpriced, I wonder?)

So to learn a little more I was browsing the manual for them and noticed a couple of VERY interesting improvements.

RECORD YOUR ROUTE
Firstly, there is a whole new feature to produce trip logs and statistics.
As well as simple calculations of average speed etc. there is now a completely new feature to record your route, AS YOU DRIVE IT.

The logs can be exported as both a TomTom-standard .ITN itinerary file, that can be shared with other TomTom users, and as a .GPX file that can be viewed with software such as Google Earth.

A neat trick is that although the RIDER cannot actually use .GPX files itself for navigating, the unit can convert them into itineraries, just by placing them into a "GPX2ITN" folder on the device.

WINDING ROADS
This new feature harks back to the very early days of TomTom Navigator, where you could choose your own preference for which types of roads to use. Currently on other standard TomToms we only get the choice of whether to avoid motorways or not.

The first time you see it is when you have entered a destination, a new routing option is shown.



And in Planning Preferences there is a new slider box to fine tune the "amount of wiggle" you want the roads chosen to have.



Interesting to see a new use of data that must already be available to satnav manufacturers in the TeleAtlas mapping.
